Coast Guardsman accused of rape at Norfolk hotel

An Alabama man who met a woman on MySpace was arrested early Saturday on allegations that he raped her in a downtown hotel room, police said.

Zontevias Lewis, 20, of Phenix City, Ala., was charged with rape, forcible sodomy and object sexual penetration, police said.

According to a police report, a woman, 18, told police that she talked with Lewis through MySpace for the past month and agreed to “ride around” with him on Friday.

He picked her up at her home and took her to a hotel room at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel, where he sexually assaulted her, the woman told police. She texted her brothers, who came to the hotel, and hotel security called police.

An officer saw Lewis leaving in a vehicle and followed him until he crashed around 1 a.m. on Park Avenue, where he was arrested, police said. No one was injured in the crash.

Police said Lewis is a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. He remained held without bond on Tuesday morning in the Norfolk jail, a spokeswoman said.

    Is he going to be tried in civilian court? I hope so cause the Coast Guard is notorious in ignoring rape allegations.

    I can’t believe he went to a hotel room with a woman that HE just met on Myspace! I bet you are in the Coast Guard cause they typically blame the woman in an assault. When it comes down to it he RAPED her and that is what we should be looking at.

    he did not rape that girl. she probably wanted some money out of him just because he is a coast guard . alot of women still do that nowadays. No one can judge him. he is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. so for all u dumb asses posting stupid comments on this article. FUCK OFF AND GET OFF HIS CASE. you all are entitled to your opinions, but one thing he is not is crazy. And i am surprised that there are ignorant people out here who make stupid comments about someone when u only know what you have heard on the news or a newspaper. Think, if it was your son, uncle, or close loved one. He made a mistake fooling around and its messed up that he was caught up in some bullshit.

    First of all less than 1% of all rape allegations are false and out of all things you want to say that she wanted money? well let get some facts straight.

    most women who report rape actually lose money. They have to go to doctors, therapy, meetings with lawyers, meetings with investigators, and court which can last weeks and even months. As of now no company in America would give a person that much time off with pay-depending on how important you are with the company they may give you time off to do all of that stuff but rarely would they pay you so there goes your salary. If you are disposable in your job like low level management and so on and so for and you request all that time off you can just kiss your job goodbye and you would get replaced by someone that does not have to leave early every week to meet with a therapist or take 2 months off for trial. Yes there is victim comp. paid off by the Attorney General but it rarely enough to cover even the basic cost to live (i know in my state you get $200 a month for 6 months)

    As a result many women are forced to not press charges OR they end up homeless. Do you know how many women ever make a significant amount of money by suing their perpetrator? Almost none especially if he is an average joe in the military and not a celebrity or something. In all honestly military is considered a low paying career and many in the military live below poverty so if she was in it for the money she wouldn’t have said this about a man who is poor.
