A Navy reservist has been arrested on charges involving the rape and sodomy of a young girl and filming the acts.
Scottie Lee Martinez, 37, of Dumfries in Northern Virginia, appeared Wednesday in U.S. District Court, where a magistrate judge ordered him to remain jailed pending a bond hearing next week. He was arrested Friday.
He is charged with sexual exploitation of children and faces 15 to 30 years in prison if convicted.
Martinez was stationed in Qatar in March when an Air Force captain discovered child pornography files on a shared computer network. The files were traced to Martinez’s laptop, according to a criminal complaint filed with the court.
Martinez agreed to let Air Force investigators search his laptop, according to an affidavit filed by a Naval Criminal Investigative Service agent. The computer had thousands of pornographic photos and videos of young boys and girls.
One series of pictures depicts Martinez and a young girl engaged in sex acts, the affidavit says. Another girl depicted in the videos told authorities that Martinez began molesting her and taking photos when she was 6, the papers say. She reported being raped and sodomized while her hands were tied.
Authorities said they are continuing to investigate Martinez’s activities in recent years here and while he lived in Iceland and Oklahoma.
He is scheduled to return to federal court Wednesday.
