WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) – A U.S. Military Academy cadet is facing trial on rape charges.
Cadet Kyle Newman will be tried by general court-martial Tuesday on two charges of rape stemming from incidents last October at West Point and in January 2009 in neighboring Highland Falls.
Newman, who would have graduated with the Class of 2010 on Saturday, is also accused of indecent conduct and three violations of failing to obey an order.
Academy officials said they could not by law provide an age or hometown for Newman.
The charges carry a maximum punishment of dismissal from the Army, forfeiture of pay and allowances, and confinement for life.
A phone number for Newman’s lawyer couldn’t be found.
The last rape case at West Point was in 2008, when a cadet was found not guilty of rape.
