Court-martial proceedings have arrived in southwestern Illinois for an Ohio-based chief master sergeant accused of sexually harassing 10 female subordinates.
William Gurney’s trial at Scott Air Force Base near Mascoutah was to begin Monday, with expectations it will last about a week.
Gurney, a 27-year Air Force veteran, had been the top-ranking enlisted man at the Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, near Dayton, when the allegations surfaced last year.
Gurney has been assigned to administrative duties.
He has not commented publicly and has not entered a plea.
The 19 charges together are punishable by up to 34 years in prison. Gurney also could face dishonorable discharge, and forfeiture of all pay and allowances, if convicted.
